LAPLACE – A 9-year-old LaPlace girl was reported raped by a 14-year-old during the weekend. The boy is also from LaPlace, according to the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Maj. Mike Tregre, spokesman for the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office, said they received a call from River Parishs Hospital on Sunday after the girl’s aunt brought her to the hospital claiming her niece was a victim of aggravated rape.
“The girl said she was in a field near her house in LaPlace, when the 14-year-old came up and grabbed her and raped her in the field,” Tregre said. “The girl said she did not know his real name, but did know his nickname and the area he lives in.”
Tregre said the girl was scared to tell anyone about what happened, because she was allegedly threatened by the boy.
“She told us who it was, and we arrested him on Sunday,” Tregre said.
“Because he is 14, there was a continuing custody hearing on Monday to decide whether or not he is to be kept in custody or released to his parents.”
Tregre said it was ruled to keep the 14-year-old in custody, and he was sent to the St. James Juvenile Detention Center.
