ST. CHARLES – The former head of the St. Charles Humane Society was arrested May 12 for alleged failure to return property to her former employer.
Donna Nassar, 56, 33 Shadow Lane, Destrehan, resigned her post as president of the St. Charles Humane Society in March, at which time she still had certain items she was supposed to return and she didn’t according to St. Charles Sheriff spokesperson Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange.
“The new director made attempts to have the property returned and it didn’t take place,” LaGrange said. “Shortly after that the new director seeked out a warrant for theft of property.”
The items the Humane Society were seeking to be returned include the title to a van donated to the group, camera equipment and files, equipment warranties and holiday event costumes.
Nassar was released under the personal assurity of a family member and had to pay a $30 booking fee, according to LaGrange.
A representative of the Humane Society was unavailable to be reached for comment.
