Second crash claims man’s life in St. John Parish

LAPLACE — Louisiana State Troopers were on the scene Sunday for the second fatal accident in St. John the Baptist Parish over a threeday span.
According to State Trooper spokesman Joseph Piglia, a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria was traveling westbound on I-10 in the left lane at which time it swerved left for an unknown reason striking the left guardrail causing the
vehicle to spin out and eventually stop facing south in the westbound left lane of I-10.
A 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier being driven by Latoya Vincent of Baton Rouge was traveling westbound in the left lane of the I-10 when she struck the Ford on the left side with her front end. The Ford was engulfed in flames shortly after being struck.
The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead on the scene and has yet to be positively identified.
Vincent and her two passengers were transported to River Parishes Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Troopers have yet to determine if speed or driver impairment were factors in the crash. The case is still under investigation by State Trooper Jason Bourgeois of Troop B.
