The Class 2A Comets traveled upstream to play Hahnville last Friday and were downed by the 5A Tigers. But St. Charles rebounded, and didn’t miss a beat when they returned to district play against St. James and Donaldsonville before returning to LaPlace to host John Curtis.

The win against Donaldsonville on Tuesday put the Comets record at 15-5 for the season going into the tilt against Curtis. And the Patriots didn’t threaten to damage that record at all. St. Charles opened scoring with a run in the bottom of the first and added to their lead in every inning afterward. Michael Oncale led the Comets from the mound, giving up five hits throughout while striking out two. His pitching record moves to 5-2.

St. Charles put on a hitting exhibition from the plate with 13 hits, as Kyle Olasin went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI. James Callahan added to the hit total with two, including a triple good for an RBI, and Philip Sutton recorded two more counting a double with an RBI.

John Curtis finally managed to put a pair of base-runners on in the fifth and looked to be hoping to scratch onto the scoreboard with two outs and men at the corners, but Oncale got the batter to hit into a force out at shortstop to end the inning. The game was called in the sixth for the ten-run rule.

The Comets now go to 16-5 on the season, 6-0 in district. Their scheduled has them set to play the Rebels, who are the only team in 10-2A with a chance of over-taking St. Charles for the district title. The Comets won the last match-up 5-2.
