LAPLACE — Despite threats of rain, the Krewe of Towahpahsah rolled Saturday and entertained the gathered crowds in Reserve.

It was followed on Sunday, blessed with perfect weather, by the Krewe Du Monde., which rolled through LaPlace.

Likewise, in St. Charles Parish, Carnival fans were greeted in Luling by the Krewe of Lul, rolling just as the sun filtered through the gloomy clouds.

In Des Allemands, bright warm sunshine greeted Carnival partiers, who responded to the parade with cheers and good behavior.

Sheriff Wayne Jones’ float in Krewe Du Monde delayed the parade somewhat by frequently stalling.

And in Luling, one large float snagged a power line, causing a short delay to clear the float.

However, sheriff’s deputies were alert and helped to keep all four parades safe for families and children, with a minimum of problems.

For many, memories of Hurricane Katrina seemed to fade, as plastic beads, stuffed animals and other throws made eyes shine with delight.

Then the Lenten season begins today for those of the Catholic faith, while the remainder of the River Parishes recovered from the 2006 Carnival season.
