Lutcher’s Lady Bulldogs missed the opportunity to take their district title when they played against DeLaSalle in an away game Monday night, dropping the match by a score of 51-40.

The loss puts the LHS squad at 16-10 on the season and 2-2 in district play. The DeLaSalle team goes to 9-9, 4-1 with the win.

Lutcher jumped out on top early in the first and built on their lead to take a 10 point lead by halftime. The Lady Caveliers made some adjustments and came out with a strong defense in the second half, allowing only nine more points while scoring 30.

LHS’s Rynique Perkins game-high 17 points kept her team in the game, as she was aided by Randi Donald’s 14, but the Lady Bulldogs just couldn’t muster enough offense to hold onto their first half lead.

Though assured a spot in the playoffs due to the lack of teams in their district due to flooding damage last August, LHS secured the district runners-up slot which should give them a middle seed and a fair opportunity to make their way to the finals tournament, which is set to be played at Southeastern Louisiana University later this month.
