Destrehan sweeps West Jefferson in basketball, soccer in district this week

DESTREHAN– The Fighting Wildcats had West Jefferson’s number this week as four different Destrehan teams beat four different Patriot squads in two different sports.
It all happened on Tuesday as the basketball teams met up in Destrehan along with the boys soccer teams, while the Lady Wildcats headed east to play the Lady Patriots.
In the DHS gym, the girls got started first, taking a 51-37 win to go to 17-6 on the season, 3-1 in district. Destrehan led throughout as the Lady Wildcats were fronted by twins Shanna and Shunna Richard who scored 16 and 13 respectively.
The boys basketball (17-11, 1-1) and soccer team got started right around the same time as the Wildcats tipped-off the basketball game at 7 p.m. Here, DHS got the toughest victory of all the Wildcat teams this day, as they were trailing going in to the final period of play. But behind __ Jefferson’s team high 19 points, and __ Molton who got 15, the Fighting Wildcats took a 57-52 win. The victory keeps the boys two games behind first place in a competetive district 10-5A.
The Wildcat soccer team took their victory on the Destrehan campus with a 6-0 win over the Patriots. Robbie Anderson led DHS in the offensive effort with a pair of goals. Donald DeLatte, Lewis Elvaldares, Sam Weinberg and Chris Tyree also netted one point apiece. The win puts the Destrehan team at 13-2-2, and a perfect 5-0 in district.
The girls soccer game took place at the West Jefferson campus where the Lady Wildcats took an 8-0 win. Francie Abell scored three goals to lead DHS in the win while Sarah Matthews, Taryn Ramsey, Michelle Corso, Kala Keller and Taylor Scyster got one each. The win bumps up the Lady Wildcats season record at 14-3-2. They are also undefeated in district play with a 7-0 record.
Destrehan basketball and boys soccer will play host again in a Wildcat on Wildcat match-up with ESJ on Tuesday. The girls DHS and ESJ teams will meet in Reserve on Friday. All of those games have implications in district standings and could give either team a big boost.
