Last weekend, the East St. John soccer team moved to 4-1 on the season after winning three of four and advancing to the semifinals of Dutchtown’s Bayou Invitational.
The Wildcats defeated Denham Springs 1-0 and St. Amant’s JV squad 2-0 on Friday, Nov. 23, and defeated Redemptorist 6-0 the next day on Saturday. But the Wildcats were upended by Jesuit’s JV later that day in the semifinals, 5-0.
“We played well, tightened up some things,” said East St. John Coach Paul Dupuy. “It gave us a chance to get some playing time and see who works well with each other on ou7r team.”
In the Wildcats’ (4-1) opening game, Terrance Crushfield scored the game’s lone goal to give his team a 1-0 victory over Denham Springs (1-3)
Ricky Grinstead and Tyler Hazert each scored in the team’s 2-0 win over St. Amant’s JV later that day.
East St. John advanced to the semifinals with a 6-0 win over Redemptorist (3-1). Crushfield scored three goals, Brandon Trant scored two, and DeChris Strong scored one for East St. John.
But the ride ended against Jesuit, as the Blue Jay JV got an early lead and protected it on its way to a 5-0 victory.
“It was some really good competition for us,” said Dupuy.
