East St. John honored its seniors on Tuesday night in the Wildcats’ last match of the season. They went out winners.
The Wildcats dispatched Joseph Clark in three games, 25-7, 25-10, 25-8 as East St. John closed out its season.
“It felt good to end the year on a high note,” said East St. John Coach Monica Hebert, who concludes her first year as head coach with the team. “It was tough being in such a competitive district. It’s nice for the seniors to go out with a win.”
East St. John seized control early on in the first game and never looked back.
Brandi Bardell led the Wildcats (10-22, 1-9) with four kills. Jolethia Byers notched three kills, while Mariah Wilder added two. Emily Heltz notched 11 assists.
Seniors who finished out their careers with the team Tuesday included Byers, Chloe Anthony, Lyndriese Franklin, Raven Simmons, and Monique Briggs.
Hebert felt that while there were some things she’d have liked to see different during the year, overall her experience was a positive one in her first campaign with the team.
“My girls fought back in some of those tough games,” Hebert said. “They hung in, knowing who we were facing and what we were up against. All in all, for the first year, it went well.”
