Donaldsonville (11-1) lost its season opener at St. Thomas more, 32-15. Since then, it has won ten straight games. But Friday night will be its toughest test as it visits No. 2 St. James (10-2), winners of nine straight and the keepers of a devastating wing-T rushing attack.

During the Wildcats win streak, only once have they been held under 30 points – in a 16-14 win over No. 1 John Curtis. The defense has been equally stout, holding opponents to 14 points or less seven times in that stretch.

The question for St. James now becomes the health of running backs Gary Davis and Luther Ambrose, two-thirds of the Wildcats three-headed monster backfield, along with Kenny Zenon. Each played sparingly last week.

Donaldson won an outright District 7-2A title this year, it’s first league title since 1991. The Tigers rolled up impressive offensive numbers this year, topping 60 points twice and 50 on two other occasions. Quality of competition was a question in many of the games, but quality victories over St. John (10-2) and Oakdale (58-28 in the regional) suggest this team is for real.

Tigers quarterback Roy Sam ran for 80 yards and three scores in the team’s rush heavy attack in the regional. Terrance Jackson and Champlain Babin lead the backfield, and those two combined for 174 yards and three touchdowns against Oakdale. Donaldsonville is very fast, but so is St. James on both offense and defense. So was homer for that matter – and Homer was shutout by the Wildcats on Friday night,
