It was two different sides of the coin for St. Charles at the Battle on the Bayou.

After defeating Grace King 54-26 to open pool play on Sunday, Terrebonne turned the tables on the Comets, defeating them 69-39 on Monday night at the Alario Center.

As a result of the win, Terrebonne advanced as winners of Pool F of the tournament’s Silver division.

Brooke Becker led the Comets with 18 points against Terrebonne. Michelle Marzoni added nine.

Terrebonne’s size and athleticism provided problems from the start for St. Charles (4-2), as it pressed and ran its way to a 26-4 lead after the first quarter. Terrebonne scored the first 12 points of the game until a Becker shot stopped the run.

“We knew they were big, athletic and quick,” said St. Charles coach Erin Remondet. “We didn’t execute and fell behind.”

The Comets trailed 39-15 at the half, and an early 11-0 run to begin the third quarter sealed the game. St. Charles settled down offensively after that, scoring 24 of its 39 points in the second half, mostly in the third quarter.

“We settled down,” said Becker, who scored 12 of her 18 points in the second half. “Our passes were sharper. They shook us early, but we regained our composure.

“Tonight was good practice for district play.”

Sunday was a different story for St. Charles, which never trailed against Grace King after running out to a 14-2 lead after a quarter. The Comets led 27-12 at halftime, and an 18-7 third quarter run gave St. Charles a 45-19 lead, closing the door on any Grace King comeback.

Marzoni led the Comets with 15 points, while Becker scored 15.

“All of our shots were going. I felt like we outhustled them, which was a big difference,” said Becker.

Remondet said the team was able to work on some different things as it established a big lead.

“We were able to play man-to-man defensively, and play a couple different zones,” said Remondet. “We got everyone in the game, which was good.”
