The Riverside Lady Rebels made their season debut on Thursday at the Country Day soccer field, falling 7-0 to the Cajuns.
The Rebels trailed 6-0 after a half, but turned up their defensive intensity and only allowed one goal after halftime.
Rebels Coach Daniel Waguespack said that given the quality of the competition, he was proud of the way his team competed.
“Country Day is one of the top teams in Class 1A,” said Waguespack. “I told them at halftime not to let up just because we’re down. They played real well, and we only allowed one goal in the second half.”
Waguespack praised the effort of Heidi Garcich, who led the team in shots on goal.
“Heidi played well, she really controlled the game for us,” said Waguespack.
