LAPLACE – St. John Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Monday who was allegedly involved in a robbery of a Reserve pool hall.
Maj. Mike Tregre, spokesperson for the St. John Sheriff’s office said George J. Fobb, III, 27, 248 Historic East St., Garyville, was booked into the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility around 1 p.m. Monday. He was charged with simple battery and second degree robbery for his involvement in an incident at The Eight Ball Game Room in Reserve on August 8, 2006.
His alleged accomplice in the case, Barney Owen, was arrested about a week after the incident.
According to police reports, Fobb and Owen were shooting pool at the hall while an employee was attempting to close for the night. When the employee advised the men he was about to close, one of the
two asked for a beer. The employee placed the beer on the bar, then turned towards the pool table to place the pool cues on the rack. While his back was turned, one of the suspects struck the employee over the head with a pool cue.
The report says the victim fell to the floor, while Fobb and Owen proceeded to jump across the bar to get to the register. The victim stated the men got away with $600 from the register.
Tregre said he did not have any more information about how deputies were able to link Fobb to the robbery.
