After the four individual events in Monday’s meet between host Riverlands and LaVacherie, the Stingrays’ undefeated record was perilously close to being tainted.
LaVacherie led 208-202 as the relay teams prepared to take off in the medley relay. A loss would mean the following meet at Larayo would no longer be a “battle of the undefeated.” Just as they did against Hill Heights a week before, the medley teams would have to come through to take the lead and notch the win
And again, that’s exactly what they did. Riverlands outscored LaVacherie 45-24.5 in the medley relay and 49-21 in the free relay to secure the win, 296.5-253.5.
“Our kids are always pumped up to swim the relays,” Riverlands Coach Carla Lambert said. “It was close throughout the meet. We swam well, especially at the end.”
For the second straight meet, Kyle Wilking and Maddie Guidry each captured three first place finishes.
Riverlands’ (5-0) season ending meet at Larayo determined the regular season champion of the River Parish Swim League. Results were not available at press time, but full coverage will be in Wednesday’s edition.
Lauren Smith and Merryn Guidry each took two first place finishes at the meet.
Other first place finishers included: Jude Guidry, Sara Guidry, Anna Guidry, Wesley Melancon, Shelbi St. Pierre, Albert Hane, Emile Cupit, Cameron Torres, Kelsey Richoux, Brian Comiskey, Macie Waguespack, Jeanne Loisel, and Ashley Wilking.
Lambert said she was not at all concerned with her team looking ahead to the season finale.
“The kids were focused on LaVacherie,” Lambert said. “We take one meet at a time.”
