LULING- A St. Charles police officer narrowly escaped a deadly by diving on his patrol car’s trunk when two St. Charles Parish men allegedly swerved their car to crush the officer after brawling near a party on Angus Drive.

The officer tracked down the two men, Kyle Rue, 19, of 900 Kinler St. in Luling and Kerwin Scott, 20, of 416 E.S. Johnson St., in New Sarpy, shortly after his close call and booked Rue with a $1 million bond for attempted first degree murder, possession of marijuana with intend to distribute and possession of a firearm with a controlled substance. He arrested Scott with a $250,000 bond for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm with a controlled substance, illegal use of a firearm and obliterated serial numbers.

St. Charles police responded to reports of a fight near a party at 140 Angus Dr. at approximately 1 a.m., when the officer heard the sound of a shotgun blast coming from the direction of the brawl. The shotgun was fired in an unknown direction and did not injure anyone.

Just after the sound of gunfire filled the air, a white truck sped towards the officer, who stood in front of his patrol car in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver swerved towards the officer, but he dived across the trunk of his car at the last moment and rushed into his patrol car to catch the perpetrators.

The officer called for a back-up and after a brief chase police stopped and arrested the perpetrators.

Police searched the truck after detaining the two men and discovered a loaded shotgun and six dime bags of marijuana, weighing roughly one gram each, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

No one was injured in the incident.
