Serven steady as Rebels take fourth in state

In the second day of action at the golf state championship tournament, Riverside found their stroke.
But it wasn’t quite enough to vault them into third place as the Rebel golf team finished seven strokes behind Sterlington, putting them at a fourth place finish in the 2A State Championship tourament played at Beaver Creek Country Club in Zachary on Monday and Tuesday.
The Rebels posted a score of 335 on Monday, leaving them tied for fourth place with Sacred Heart. But Riverside shot like the third place team on the second day of play, posting a 318 to match Sterlington’s total for the day.
David Serven, who is the Division IV Region III individual champion, led the Rebels by posting a 75 on Monday and a 74 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 149 which placed him seventh overall and earned him first team all-state honors.
Chris Sharpless aided in the effort for Riverside, improving seven full strokes from his first day to put up a 79 on Tuesday for a total of 165. Ryan Castille and Brett Lamonte also finished under 171. Castille shot an 86 and an 83 for a 169 overall while Lamonte posted an 88 and an 82 for a 170.
