The St. Charles and Riverside baseball and softball teams were well represented on the 2A All-State baseball team. Five players were named to the teams outright, and five others were given honorable mention status.
The baseball team featured St. Charles senior Steven Duhe at pitcher and freshman Marc Picciola at the utility position. The softball team featured St. Charles junior Lauren Coniglio (Utility), and Riverside sophomore Heidi Garcich (outfielder).
Players given honorable mention status in baseball were St Charles’ Philip Sutton, B.J. Cancienne, and Jordan Millet and Riverside’s Jade Falgoust. In softball, St. Charles’ Ashley Trosclair and Courtney Western were honorable mention.
Picciola batted .463 while playing second base for the state runner up Comets. Duhe went 6-2 on the mound for St. Charles.
Coniglio batted .420 for a Comets team that reached the state semifinals. Garcich batted .410 for the Rebels this season.
St. Charles Coach Paul Waguespack said his team will miss both Duhe and Cancienne at the top of its rotation, but suggested that Picciola should continue to build upon a season where he finished All-State as a freshman.
“He’s always bright eyed and bushy tailed,” Waguespack said. “He’s our best hitter, and he’s always ready to go.”
