LAPLACE -The LaPlace Rotary Club is currently soliciting nominations for its annual awards, given to a teenager and a top area citizen.

The District 6840 Club will hand out the &#8220Stephanie Wilking Outstanding Teen” and a &#8220Citizen of the Year” award at its annual banquet and awards dinner each summer.

The &#8220Outstanding Teen” honor seeks to recognize a local youth for top education and moral achievement in the community, and is named in honor of the LaPlace teen who began the national &#8220Kids for Cops” organization years ago, which helped raise money to purchase bulletproof vests for the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office. Wilking later died of spinal meningitis.
