Hey kids, want to do something nice for your mom?

Hey kids, you’ve still got plenty of time to enter our “Why My Mother Deserves to be Pampered” contest for Mother’s Day, and I hope plenty of you take a shot at trying to give your mom a real special day.

L’Observateur has teamed up with Salon Menage, Carmouche Jewelers and W.J. Smokehouse and Restaurant, to put together a fabulous prize package for mom.

But to win it, we need one of you kids to send us a great essay about why your mom deserves the special day.

Deadline to enter the contest is this Wednesday, April 30, but it really shouldn’t be hard for you to still enter.

Just write an essay of 300 words or less about why your mom is the greatest. Come on now, is that so hard to do?

Think of all the things your mom does to take care of you. If it wasn’t for her, you would be eating cereal every morning for breakfast when you get ready for school. Or what about having plenty of clothes clean every time you need them. Without her, you’d be the stinkiest kid at the school since you know your dad would never get the laundry done in time!

And how about just having mom there for those great hugs that nobody can give like your mother?

My son loves hugging his mom. He is homeschooled, but my wife tells me that anytime they have any little distraction, or problem in the class, or anything at all, he’s got a line he says to her.

“OK mom, let’s hug it out,” he says, as he comes over by her and gives her a big hug.

Need I say my wife loves it?

So get to work kids! Surely your mom is worth the effort to write a nice essay about her. You have until Wednesday to e-mail it to me, here at kchiri@bellsouth.net.

Look at what you could win for her.

Salon Menage will provide a day of relaxation with everything a massage-filled day could bring; W.J. Smokehouse and Restaurant has dinner for two; and Carmouche Jewelers is topping it off with some of the beautiful jewelry you will find at their store on Belle Terre Boulevard.

Hurry up, you’ve only got a few days left!

Speaking of deadlines, I hope some of you golfers will make time on Monday, May 5 to play in the annual Rudolph G. Dinvaut Athletic Foundation golf tournament at Belle Terre Country Club.

Coach Dinvaut was a longtime head football coach at West St. John who was one of those gentlemen who has affected more young men in a positive way than he will probably ever know. Not only did he win lots of games and championships when he coached the Rams for many years, but more importantly, he was a positive role model for the young men who played on his teams.

Now he holds an annual golf tournament to still give back to the West St. John program and that certainly deserves your support.

Not only do you get a great day of food, drink and golf at Belle Terre, but check this out—there is an autographed football by NFL Pro Bowl MVP Adrian Peterson which is part of the silent auction.

All of the proceeds go to the Athletic Foundation fund, and that is certainly a great cause.

Cost for the tournament is only $100 a player, or $400 for a team, and they will have a noon tee off for the scramble event.

To sign up, call his daughter Bonnie at 504-570-3328.

Don’t worry if you missed a lot of the spring fairs we have been having in our area over the past month or so, since you can still catch one that is always a lot of fun, over at St. Joan of Arc church and school this weekend.

You’ve still got today and Sunday to go by the fair, so don’t miss it!

Because they had no reservations at a busy restaurant, my elderly neighbor and his wife were told there would be a 45-minute wait for a table.

“Young man, we’re both 90 years old,” the husband said, “And we may not have 45 minutes.”

They were both seated immediately.
