Rebels, Wildcats impress at 10-2A meet

Riverside’s Marci Millet took a first place finish in the discus and the Lady Rebels track and field team took second place in Wednesday’s District 10-2A championship meet.
Millet highlighted a deep group of Rebels that qualified for next week’s regionals.
Meanwhile, on the boys’ side, Jesse LeBlanc took first place in the javelin and in the 1600 meters. Riverside finished sixth in the boys events.
St. James took the boys’ district title with a total of 175 points, outpacing second place John Curtis, which scored 107.
Newman was tops among the girls, outscoring Riverside 144-119.
Millet’s discus throw of 100-1 was good enough to give her top honors in the event. She also finished fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 28.99, helping to lead the Rebels to their high finish.
“I thought the team did very well,” said Riverside girls’ track Coach Joe Trosclair. “Everyone did a great job. I’m very proud, we’ve had a good season this year.”
LeBlanc’s time of 4:48.0 topped all runners in the 1600, while his throw of 167-7 gave him top honors in the javelin. He took third in the 800 meters (2:06.0).
St. James’ Luther Ambrose won three events to help propel the Wildcats to the district title. He finished first in the long jump (23-6), the triple jump (47-10.5), and the 100 meters (10.54).
Other first place finishers for the wildcats included: Jarrun Hillaire (high jump, 6-2); Casey Narcisse (shot put, 48-7.5); Kaylon Celestin (110 meter hurdles, 15.71, and 300 meter hurdles, 43.17).
Other regional qualifiers among the Riverside boys included: Jade Falgoust (4th, long jump, 20-4); Jeremy Newberry (2nd, high jump, 5-6); and the 4×200 relay team.
Among the girls: Jenny LeBlanc (2nd, 110 meter hurdles, 18.6; 2nd, 300 meter hurdles, 53.14; 4th, triple jump, 29.75); Chelsea Simon (3rd, shot put, 26-11.5, 3rd, discus, 73-6.5); Kelsi Roussel (4th, shot put, 24-10); Jessica Price (2nd, javelin, 114-5); Brittany Schoen (triple jump, 31-1.75); Maurie Laiche (3rd, 200 meters, 27.79, 3rd, 100 meter dash, 13.57); Heather Cancienne, 110 meter hurdles, 18.83, 3rd, 300 meter hurdles, 53.27; and the 4×200 relay team (1st, 1:55.0) and 4×100 relay team (3rd, 54.6).
