LAPLACE – A two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 628 in LaPlace over the weekend claimed the life of an unidentified motorcyclist, said a Louisiana State Police spokesman.
Senior Trooper Joseph Piglia, pubic information officer for State Police, said the man, whose name was not released pending proper notification of family, was pronounced dead on the scene from his injuries.
Piglia said the accident occurred around 3:50 p.m. Sunday on LA 628 just east of LA 636-1, and involved a 1999 Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by the unidentified
white male, and a 2006 Chevrolet pick-up, driven by Doris Laurent of LaPlace.
According to a report from State Police, the Kawasaki was traveling eastbound on LA 628, when it entered a curve in the roadway. The driver lost control of the motorcycle and crossed the center line, causing the motorcycle to slide on its side underneath the pick-up, which was traveling westbound on LA 636.
The report said the truck rolled over the motorcycle, killing the driver.
Piglia said speed of the drivers involved was not considered a factor in the crash. He said a toxicology report is pending to determine if the motorcyclist was impaired at the time of the accident. He said driver impairment on the part of Laurent was also not a factor. The investigation remains open.
