Becnel

Edna Vicknair Becnel, 92, died March 22, 2008. The Garyville native and LaPlace resident was the mother of Daniel E. Becnel, Jr., Robert M. Becnel, and Susan Becnel Williams. Mother-in-law of Judge Mary Hotard Becnel, and Diane Zink. Grandmother of Daniel E. Becnel, III, Devon Becnel, Bradley Becnel, Anisley Becnel, Ryan Becnel, Bridget Delivorias, Kelly Rovetto, Meghan Burns, Stephanie Barrett, and Courtney Nickels. Sister of Lucille Haydel, Percy Vicknair. She is preceded in death by her husband, the late D. Elmore Becnel; sisters, the late Bernice Roth, Mae Montz, Minnie Mattei, Hazel Deslatte, Rose Lowry, Natalie Ramirez, and Wilfred Vicknair. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 26, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in LaPlace, starting at 9 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery in Reserve.

Babin

Marie Babin, 96, died March 17, 2008. The Luling resident and Raceland native was the wife of the late Edgar L. Babin. She is survived by a daughter, Fay Babin Kinler, grandchildren, Kerry Parlette, Pattie Gassen, Trudy Brooks, Clark Kinler, Boyd Kinler, and Brent Kinler, and great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Blake, Jodie, Marissa, James and Miles. Visitation was held Monday, March 24, at 9 a.m., with a funeral service following. Interment was at St. Charles Cemetery in Luling, La.

Badeaux

Charleston James Badeaux, 50, died March 20, 2008. The Destrehan native was a Deckhand with Gnots Fleet. Badeaux was the son of MaryBelle Badeaux, father of Hope Marie Badeaux, brother of Ralph Badeaux, Jeffrey Badeaux, Lolan Badeaux, and Lori Duplessis. He was Grandfather to Dwayne, Hailey, Cash, and Austin.

Visitation was held Tuesday, March 25 at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Destrehan, followed by a religious service. Interment was in St. Charles Cemetery.

Hymel

Marjorie Simon Hymel, 85, died March 22, 2008. The native of Vacherie is survived by a son, Curtis P. Hymel; four daughters, Nadine Delatte, Pamela Zeringue, Marie Dufresne, and Jeanne Landry; three sisters, Audrey Gravois, Lillian Zeringue, and Amy Breaux; a brother, Robert “Bob” Simon. Visitation was held Tuesday, March 25, at St. Phillip Catholic Church, followed by a funeral mass, and Christian burial. Interment was at St. Phillip Catholic Church Cemetery in Vacherie.

Sampson

Willie Sampson, Sr., 68, died Wednesday March 19. The native and resident of Norco was the son of the late Abraham and Mary Sampson. He was the father of Tanza Sterling, Angela Grant, Maria Chopin, Daryl Sampson, David Sampson, Willie Sampson, Ron Sampson, and the late Eddius Sampson. Visitation was held Tuesday, March 25, at the Greater Good Hope Baptist Church, with a funeral service following. Interment was at Montz Cemetery in Montz, La.

Young

James R Young, 50, died March 21, 2008. The Metairie native and Mandeville resident had an optometry practice in the LaPlace area. Young is survived by a son, Ryan L. Young, a daughter, Kelsey P. Young, a sister, Linda Y. Puyau, and a brother, Jack Young. Visitation was held Tuesday, March 25 at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home Chapel, with a funeral service following.

Zeringue

Stanley J. “Bud” Zeringue, 61, died March 21, 2008. The Gramercy native is survived by his parents, Joseph and Marie Hymel Zeringue, sisters, Constance and Joann Zeringue, and a brother-in-law, Tommy Zeringue. Visitation was held Monday, March 24, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with a funeral service following. His burial was at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Paulina, La.
