After erasing a ten-point first half deficit to draw within two, it looked like the Reserve Christian Lady Eagles were primed to earn their first district win of the year.

But hosting Phoenix asserted its own ideas in the third quarter, outscoring Reserve 16-2 in the period, on its way to a 52-34 win.

“It’s a little disappointing,” said Reserve Coach Natalie Simon. “We went into the half on a high note. The game got more physical in the second half though, and I think we wore down.

Daysha Blount led the Eagles (2-11, 0-3) with 12 points. Jamie Bolden scored six and Kelly Crews added five.

Phoenix pushed the ball in transition, scoring on a host of long passes down court resulting in quick baskets.

“Grand Isle didn’t play that kind of game,” said Simon of Reserve’s last opponent. “I think the transition from that game to this one was a bit overwhelming.”

Phoenix led 13-8 after a quarter and 23-21 at halftime.

The Eagles now must win the rematch with Phoenix on Monday night in Reserve’s final regular season game in order to have a shot to qualify for the postseason as a representative of District 10-C.

“I think the kids realize that this is it,” said Simon. “We ran out of gas in the second half, but we know what kind of game to prepare for now.”

“We just have to go out and play with nothing to lose.”
