East St. John extended its winning streak to five in dominating fashion on Friday night, as the Ladycats defeated St. Amant, 48-10.

After a stretch of tough, must-win district games, East St. John Coach Troy Giordano was able to establish an early lead and quickly go to the bench, playing his young reserves after the first quarter, many of which who were freshman.

“We were able to get everyone in the game for some experience, so that was a plus,” said East St. John Coach Troy Giordano. “It let my younger kids gain some experience.”

A win like this comes at a good time for the Wildcats (22-12, 5-3), who were preparing for a big game on Monday against first place Dutchtown.

The Griffins were the last team to beat East St. John, on Jan. 18 via a last second shot.

“We’re definitely hitting our stride right now. We’re playing our best ball of the season, Giordano said. “I was getting impatient early in the year when we were 8-7. We lost so many by one or two points. But we’re getting better at the right time.”
