Two of Riverside’s brightest senior athletes have recently made their jump to the next level official.

The Rebels’ Jade Falgoust has signed to attend and play baseball at Delgado next year. Likewise, Riverside’s Marci Millet is on her way to Nicholls State, where she will study and play softball.

Falgoust was a multi sport athlete at Riverside, where he played quarterback and safety on the football team, forward on the basketball team, and pitcher and catcher on the baseball team.

On the diamond, Falgoust hit .464 to not only lead the Rebels, but all batters in St. John Parish. His on-base percentage finished at .661 and he scored 36 runs to go with 19 RBIs. He also stole 19 bases. He was All-District in football and baseball, and named to the L’Observateur’s All-St. John Parish team in each sport as well.  

“I never thought this day would come,” said Falgoust. “It’s tough leaving high school. I’m just glad I can keep playing baseball, especially at the next level.”

Said Riverside baseball Coach Britt Waguespack: “He was a guy you want to coach. The only thing I had to do was look at him, and things got done. He led our club with good character. He’s a good person who comes from a great family. I know he’ll excel.”

Falgoust said that he wanted to stay close to home, one reason that Delgado represented a great fit for him.

Another thing he looks forward to is playing for a successful team that’s only one year removed from a trip to the JUCO World Series.

“I’m going to play for a team that’s been where I want to be at the end,” said Falgoust.

Millet, meanwhile, was also a highly accomplished multi-sport athlete who excelled in volleyball and basketball in addition to softball.

She hit .414 for the Lady Rebels while leading them to the Class 2A state semifinals. She finished the season with 27 RBis (leading the Parish) and 23 extra base hits.

Millet was named All-District in softball, volleyball and basketball, and is also one of only two athletes this past season to be named to the L’Observateur’s All-St. John Parish team in three sports, male or female (the other being RA’s Heidi Garcich).

“I can’t believe it’s here already,” Millet said. “I feel ready for it, though.”

Like Falgoust, Millet said the school’s proximity to home was a plus.

“It’s close by. I’m very family oriented, this lets me stay near,” she said.

    “Marci almost feels like a second daughter (to me),” said Riverside softball Coach Mickey Roussel. “She’s the consummate student athlete, a student first and an athlete second. She’s excellent at both.

    “Like I’ve said before, I have a daughter starting out at Riverside, and if she could come close to what Marci did in her career, I’ll be a very proud papa.”

    Likewise, Millet credited Roussel and her other coaches for helping her succeed.

    “They taught me so much. I wouldn’t have made it here without them,” she said.
