SLU student from LaPlace chosen as ‘Cotton Festival Queen’

Brandy Lynn Matulich of LaPlace has been crowned 2008 La. Queen Cotton LV.
Matulich, 22, won the title Saturday, October 11, during a pageant at Ville Platte Civic Center in Evangeline Parish. She reigned over the La. Cotton Festival parade on Sunday. She will also reign over the Cotton Festival October 13 – 18, 2009.
As Queen Cotton, Matulich will compete in La. Association of Fairs and Festivals Queen of Queens pageant in February 2009 in Baton Rouge. She will compete against approximately 90 reigning La. Festival Queens for the coveted title. She will also attend the Washington D.C. Mardi Gras Ball in January 2009.
Brandy, the daughter of Dawn and Glenn Childs, is a Senior at Southeastern La. University where she has earned a minor in Communications and is still pursuing a degree in Marketing. She is a manager at Raising Cane’s of LaPlace and upon graduation from SLU, plans to earn a position on their advertising team.
Matulich, a TOPS scholarship recipient and National Honor Society member, is a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, St. John Relay for Life, and Special Olympics.
Matulich was Teen Miss Andouille in 2000, Miss Andouille in 2004, and La. Yambilee Queen in 2006.
