For the second consecutive week, the Riverside Lady Rebels captured a win at its own track and field meet last Wednesday.

St. Charles, St. James, John Curtis and Fisher all also participated at the event.

Heather Cancienne and Maurie Laiche each won two individual events to lead the Rebels to victory.

Cancienne took first place in the 100 meter hurdles (18.54) and the 300 meter hurdles (53.44). Laiche, meanwhile, was tops in the 200 meter dash (28.75) and the 100 meter dash (13:66).

Riverside coach Joe Trosclair praised Cancienne for her contributions, noting she’s only a freshman.

“She’s just going to keep getting better,” he said. “She’s doing very well for us this year. This is good for her.”

Megan Malik and Bridget Petit each captured first place finishes for Riverside as well. Malik’s shot put of 29-4.5 was tops in the field, and Petit’s mark of 1:14.50 bested all runners in the 400 meters.

Trosclair’s only disappointment at the girls’ finish came in the relay events. While the Rebels finished first in the 4×400, it fell short of St. James twice, in the 4×100 and 4×200 events.

“We have to get better on our handoffs,” said Trosclair. “I thought we could have got to first in both, but we need to keep improving.”

For St. Charles, Reyna Lubin topped the 800 meters (2:44.91) and the long jump (15-9). Erica Blank took first place in the 1600 meters (6:15.03). Olivia Burns topped the 3200 meter event (14:59.15.)

Justin Vicknair shined for St. Charles on the boys side. Vicknair took first place in the 110 meter hurdles (16.37) and 300 meter hurdles (43.94).

Justin Newbauer chimed in for Riverside, capturing first place in the high jump (5-10). Josh Tassin’s mark of 52.94 bested all runners in the 400 meters.

“Both of those guys are just back from basketball,” Trosclair said. “You can’t ask for better from them right now.”
