LAPLACE – Starting Friday two separate sections of River Road, one in St. John and one in St. Charles, will experience closures while work crews conduct repairs in the area.

Louisiana 48 in Destrehan, between Destrehan Plantation and East Campus Drive, will close to all traffic beginning at 4 p.m. Friday due to the installation of a 24-inch water line under the river. The road is expected to be closed through the end of Saturday.

Traffic in the area will be detoured between I-310 and St. Rose Avenue through the duration of the work. Detour signs will be clearly posted. Another alternate route is Airline Highway.

Meanwhile Louisiana 44 in Reserve, between 10th Street and West 15th Street will shut down for four consecutive weekends starting Saturday so that welding repairs can be done on a river access bridge used by Globalplex. The road is scheduled to be closed from 10 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Feb. 28 and March 1, March 7-8, March 14-15 and March 21-22. Variable message boards will be on site.

To maneuver around the roadwork, motorists are advised to take Louisiana 637 to Airline Highway and Airline Highway to Louisiana 54 to rejoin River Road.
