Even after considering a speed bump against powerful Lutcher – a double overtime loss to the Bulldogs – Hahnville’s done little this season to dispel expectations that the Tigers on a course for a potential trip to the Superdome in December.

Friday night served up further reinforcement.

Hahnville dominated from start to finish in a 42-7 victory at Vandebilt Catholic.

Alfred Blue rushed for three touchdowns and accounted for 118 total yards. As a team, the Tigers rushed for 198 yards and outgained the Terriers in total yardage, 295 to 203.

“When we’re able to run it, we’re always very hard to stop,” said Valdin. “When we’re clicking there, it opens everything up for the passing game. We used some play action passes and we had guys open down the field.”

Brian Ensminger took advantage. The junior quarterback completed eight of his 12 passing attempts and fired home two touchdowns.

Hahnville (4-1) led 42-0 going into the fourth quarter.

Despite showing ability to move the ball, Vandebilt Catholic (2-3) simply could not get into the endzone until the game’s late stages.

“They moved it up and down the field on us,” said Valdin. “But we allowed no big plays, and our first team defense allowed no points. I thought they had a good plan, but we were probably more athletic than they were, and they couldn’t put it in.”

Valdin said Vandebilt looked to run to the outside, but that his team did a good job “running to the football”.

That, coupled with an early lead, left the Tiger defense to get after the Terrier passing game.

“We put a lot of heat on the quarterback,” he said. “They had a difficult time trying to throw it.”

Blue scored twice in the first quarter, from one and six yards away, to make it 14-0.

His third touchdown was also from six yards, and that made it 21-0 early in the second quarter to cap off a five play drive.

Ensminger passed for two touchdowns before halftime to push the lead to 35-0. The first came on a nine yard pass to Byron Gauthier. His second was a 22-yard pass to Dontrell Strickland.

Strickland would score Hahnville’s final touchdown in the third quarter on a 56-yard punt return.

“I thought it was a great tune up going into district,” said Valdin. “We’re still working on some thing. You can always improve your line play. We want to work on our wide receivers getting open more quickly. And defensively, we need to develop some depth in the secondary. But I think we played pretty well.”
