A nip and tuck affair went Hahnville’s way on Tuesday, as the Tigers bested St. Charles Catholic 25-22, 25-23, 25-23 in a non-district volleyball match in Boutte.
Jamara Celistan led the Tigers (2-6) with 21 kills and three aces. K.K. Boyd added five digs for Hahnville.
Courtney Western and Jaymie Remondet led SCC (3-5) in kills with three each. Western added three assists. Kadie Levatino added seven digs.
SCC coach Kelly Cupit said that Hahnville’s height advantage and powerful hitting proved problematic for the Comets. Further compounding matters was that SCC was missing two starters due to illness.
“To compete with a team like Hahnville and keep things close at less than full strength…I think it shows the potential we have,” said Cupit.
“We had some players come in off the bench and do well. That’s something that will help us later in the season.”
She credited the Tigers ability to finish off longer rallies as a key in the match.
“They were a little better than we were in that regard,” Cupit said. “They had a couple of girls that put it away a little harder than we’re used to. But we made adjustments throughout.”
