Reverend Gregory Michael Aymond, 14th Archbishop of New Orleans, celebrated a Mass recently, at St. Joan of Arc Church in LaPlace. Several members of the Comet family were present for the celebration of the Eucharist.

Among those helping with the celebration of the Mass were St. Charles Catholic students Bradley Jouty, sophomore, Lloyd Kerlic, senior, Matthew Weber, senior, Marissa Templet, sophomore, and Class of 1984 Alumni Andrew St. Martin.

Aymond spoke about his wish for the public to pray for three things each day.

First, he indicated that as people of Catholic faith, they should continue to pray for those who still have not completed the rebuilding process in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Such sentiments are appropriate as South Louisiana nears the fourth anniversary of the storm’s devastating effects.

Secondly, Aymond asked that those in attendance pray for all priests, especially those in their own parishes. He further added that this was important because Pope Benedict XVI has sanctioned this year as the year of the priest.

Before the final blessing, Aymond asked for all to pray for vocations. “I know that in every parish there is at least one young man and one young woman who may be discerning entering the religious life,” he said.

Principal Andrew Cupit, Assistant Principal Jeffery Montz, Assistant Principal Douglas Triche, Dean of Students Paul Waguespack, Development Director Marie Ory, Religion Coordinator Elena Gabb and Senior Student Council members MaQue Hollins, Arieian Johnson, Jenna Geandron and Hailey Melancon participated in the celebration of the Mass and spoke with Archbishop Aymond at the reception that followed.
