LAPLACE – A Garyville man was arrested early Monday in connection with a shooting that injured a 21-year-old man, according to a release from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said Kevin Ferrygood, 22, of South Fig Street, was tracked down and apprehended near the scene of the shooting, which occurred just after 1 a.m. in the 300 block of South Fig Street. Lt. Andy Breaux, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said Ferrygood was arrested after a brief foot pursuit.
According to a release, deputies located the victim, an unidentified Garyville man, at a residence on Bluebell Street a few blocks from the scene. The victim was transported by ambulance to University Hospital in New Orleans for treatment of gunshot wounds to both legs. Breaux said the victim was released Monday morning.
According to the release, several anonymous callers to 911 told dispatchers that Ferrygood was the shooter in the incident. Breaux said deputies acquired a warrant and arrested him at the scene. Breaux said Sheriff’s Office records show that Ferrygood, a repeat offender in St. John Parish, was out of jail on parole for possession of cocaine.
Breaux said Ferrygood was booked into the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility in LaPlace on an aggravated battery charge. Bond information was not available as of press time.
