RESERVE – Plans to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of Reserve are continually evolving as the group plans to kick off the celebration at the Independence Day fireworks celebration held each year at St. Peter in Reserve.
“We plan to have T-shirts available at the fireworks event,” said Judge J. Sterling Snowdy, the man who has spearheaded organizing the event.
The celebration will be held July 2.
Snowdy said the group has settled on a logo to be emblazoned on the shirts. He said it is similar in design to some of the earliest logo suggestions, but the dates have been removed as the group has found the exact date of the founding of Reserve to be somewhat in question.
“We’re still doing research,” said Snowdy.
Part of the Independence Day celebration is a luncheon for veterans, and Snowdy said the group hopes to solicit some interviews at that time to be included in a documentary filmmaker Jeff Duhe is producing about the town.
Snowdy said the group has also determined dates when citizens can bring in their photos and stories concerning life in Reserve in earlier times. Those dates are July 16, 17, 23 and 24. He said exact locations have not yet been decided.
The next planning meeting will take place Tuesday, June 29, at 5:30 p.m. at St. John Theatre.
Snowdy said the group hopes to have a rough outline of fall celebratory activities ready by then.
