Wildcat relay teams sweep district 6-5A

ST. AMANT – East St. John’s boys finished third and its girls finished fourth at Wednesday’s District 6-5A meet at St. Amant on Wednesday.
The Dutchtown boys and girls swept the event, each coming away with the district crown.
Each Griffin squad dominated, winning by over a combined 150 points.
The ESJ boys scored 83 points, behind second place St. Amant (90.5) and just ahead of Hahnville (82).
The East St. John boys relays team were a big bright spot, sweeping the district titles in all three events.
The 4×400 relay squad took first with a time of 3:24.40.
The 4×200 team (Quinton Johnson, DeChris Strong, Brandon Mitchell and Reynaldo Young) won behind a time of 1:28.26, just over rival Hahnville (1:28.70).
The 4×100 squad (Johnson, Strong, Raven, Young) recorded a winning time of 41.93.
“We think that, especially in the relays, we should be very competitive next week,” said ESJ coach Eleno Rodriguez. “If we take care of our own business, we should be around until the end.”
Baishawn Pratt finished third in the 800 (2:06.84).
Brandon Mitchell took second place in the 400 (50.77). Quinton Johnson finished third in the 200 (22.21).
The Ladycats posted 74 points.
Darichelle Sampson took second place in the 100 (13.97) and third in the 200 (25.90).
Deznee Wilson was second in the 400 (1:00.11). Christy Joseph finished third in the discus (95-1), and Dynekia Sanders scored a leap of 35-10 to take third in the triple jump.
The 4×200 relay team finished second (1:42.69), as did the 4×100 team (48.79).
The 4×400 relay team took third place (4:24.41).
