EDGARD – West St. John fought off a negative slide with some big bats Wednesday, toppling Christian Life, 21-6, in a District 8-1A game to stay alive in the Class 1A playoff mix.

Ormoni Favorite was 4-for-4 with four RBIs, including a home run, for West St. John (7-7, 4-6). She also stole two bases. Taj Howard was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two steals. Brittany Tuco went 3-for-4 with a home run.

The win has West St. John sitting in fourth place in the district, behind St. John-Plaquemines (10-0 in district), Ascension Catholic (9-1) and White Castle (5-3). Only the first three teams automatically qualify for the playoffs.

The win followed two losses to the 1A powerhouses atop the district, an 18-2 loss to Ascension Catholic and a 15-2 loss to White Castle.

West St. John coach Brandon Dumas said his team’s cold bats began to wake up late in the Ascension Catholic game, and it carried over.

“He got a couple of hits there, put it in play and made them make the plays,” said Dumas. “We took that approach today.”

Christian Life scored all six of its runs in the first inning.

The Rams answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning then piled up 11 in the second.
