EDGARD – Little progress has been made in the investigation into the recent vandalism at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgard, according to Deacon Warren Pierre.
Because of this, he said, the church is teaming up with CrimeStoppers in the hunt for suspects. This weekend the church will be taking up a second collection at its Masses so a cash reward can be offered for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
“The church community is still saddened by the event,” said Pierre.
Unfortunately, the investigation thus far has produced no leads.
He said the insurance company has come out to look at the damage, but they have not yet come back with a dollar amount regarding the damage. Repairs are being handled, he said, through the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
“In this case, it’s a very odd request being made,” said Pierre in reference to finding a company to repair the nearly century-old stained glass windows.
At the end of July, vandals threw stones through the stained-glass windows behind the altar at the church. The windows were created in Munich, Germany, in 1920.
Anyone with information regarding the vandalism is asked to call St. John Detective Scott Guillory at 985-359-8769 or CrimeStoppers at 504-822-1111.
