SJBP fourth-graders participated in a fun and unique hands-on field trip experience at the Fast Food Farm in Gramercy, learning the importance of agriculture and how it affects their daily lives. There were animals for touching and viewing, various exhibits, learning activities where students made butter, created models of soil with chocolate and cereal, ground wheat and made food pyramid bracelets. Many community and student volunteers from around the parish made the day a success for the fourth-graders.

At the Fast Food Farm, the parish’s fourth-grade students participated in hands-on stations where they learned the basics of the food pyramid, planted seeds and got a close-up view of a large pot-bellied pig. The Fast Food Farm is two acres of land in the midst of sugar cane fields. The farm was built to show students where much of the food they eat comes from.

and Jr. Leaders assisted with Ag Day. These high school leaders assisted at each station to help the fourth-grade students from the parish to learn about the importance of agriculture and how it connects with the origin of their favorite fast food.
