ST. JAMES — St. James trailed just 13-7 at halftime of its game against Karr, but a series of Wildcats mistakes allowed the Cougars to take advantage and blow the game open into a 46-7 non-district rout.
Six different Cougars (9-1) scored touchdowns.
St. James (4-6) was led by Kenneth Armant and LaRohn Cambre, as they combined to rush for 111 yards on 19 carries.
Blake Joseph and Christian Verret each had seven tackles to lead the Wildcats defense.
St. James coach Rick Gaille said that his team seemed to be in position to make a game of things in the second half, but that things unraveled very quickly.
“We were in pretty good shape, but then we give up a punt return for a touchdown, and then turn it over three straight times,” said Gaille. “Mistakes beget mistakes. You don’t just get them out of the way before the playoffs, there’s no cap on how many you can make. It came down to a lack of execution and mental toughness.”
