Laptops are a key element used to engage St. James High School students in 21st Century learning. In addition to providing a laptop computer to each seventh– to ninth-grade student, wireless access throughout the campus has been updated. St. James Parish Public School’s implementation of the laptop program places it at the forefront in the use of instructional technology in the River Parishes. Students and parents received initial orientation about the use of the laptops in July and students are receiving more detailed “hands on” orientation as the computers are handed out. Schoolfusion and Moodle are two online communication portals for parents and students to stay informed on events and assignments happening at school. The high school also has information about the laptop program posted on the school website, and there is a help desk at the high school to address questions and resolve problems that may arise. Training for teachers on best practices for integrating technology into classroom instruction and enhanced instructional technology in classrooms have given students and teachers tools for success.
St. James High School will hold a parent workshop on Monday, Oct. 18, from 5 – 6 p.m. in the school library to instruct parents on how to use Schoolfusion. Schoolfusion is the district’s website used to communicate with parents and students online. All parents of St. James Parish students are welcome to attend this workshop.
