Riverside finished 1-3 in its trip to Monroe for tournament play, defeating Bunkie but falling to Menard, Ouachita Christian and Vermilion Catholic.

It was an up-and-down weekend weather-wise that saw all the tournament teams dealing with uncertainty in terms of where and when games would be taking place.

Riverside (4-4) opened up the tournament with a win over Bunkie that pushed them to 4-2 on the season. The Rebels scored twice in the first inning and would lead 4-0 at one point before allowing two Bunkie runs in the seventh inning.

Ashton Perret had a no hitter going through five innings before finally allowing one through. He went seven innings for the complete game victory, allowing two earned runs on five hits. He struck out seven batters.

Austin Vicknair led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base.

“We came out swinging and kind of shell shocked them a bit,” said White. “It was tough for both teams. It looked like it would rain the entire game, we were sitting around beforehand wondering if we were going to get it in. But we were able to jump out on them. Ashton kept them off-balance and did a really good job for us.”

Menard took advantage of four second inning-errors by the Rebels to score four runs and built a 9-0 lead before eventually coming away with a 10-4 victory.

Riverside finished with six errors on the game.

“We had a couple of really bad innings,” said White. “It was really a game where nothing went our way.”

Bryant Tassin went 5.1 innings and allowed four hits and four earned runs. At the plate, he went 3-for-3 with a home run.

Dylan Martin was 2-for-3 with a triple and a steal.

Defending Class 1A champion Ouachita Christian scored the game-winning run in the sixth inning to take a 4-3 decision over the Rebels.

Tate Scioneaux went five innings and allowed two earned runs. He struck out six. Martin took the loss after coming on in relief in the sixth inning.

Scioneaux was 2-for-3 with a home run and a double. Grady Gieger was 2-for-2 with a triple.

Vermilion Catholic scored all five of its runs in the second inning of play and held on despite a late Rebel surge for a 5-4 win.

Riverside scored two runs in the fourth inning, then one in each of the fifth and sixth frames. The Rebels had chances to win late, first with the bases loaded and Tassin up. He ripped a ball down the line just foul, and would strike out after. Then Gieger hit a ball to right field, but Vermilion Catholic secured the catch to end the threat.

“I thought it was going to fall,” said White of Gieger’s at-bat.

Martin went five innings and struck out three. He allowed four hits and gave up two earned runs. At the plate, he was 2-for-5 and had a steal. Scioneaux went 2-for-4.
