What is love to you?

February is not a very exciting month except for Valentine’s Day. The weather is usually overcast and chilly with rainy days. God was good to us when he made it the shortest month of the year.
Valentine’s Day is the day we most often say those three simple little words, “I Love You.” LOVE is a four-letter word that we use, not really paying attention to what it means. The Bible says that love is more important than faith or hope. Without love we are spiritually and physically handicapped.
In Corinthians, Chapter 13, verses 4-7, it reads, “Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous, love does not brag and is not arrogant, love does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears … believes … hopes … endures all things. “
A few years ago, after speaking at a drug treatment center about love and referring to what the Bible said, Jeanne and I were on our way home, and she asked, “Harold, do you ever think how that scripture would sound if you substituted your name for love?” Before I answered, she said and I listened as she rattled off, “Harold is patient, Harold is kind, and is not jealous, Harold does not brag and is not arrogant, Harold does not act unbecomingly; does not seek his own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears … believes … hopes … endures all things.”
Jeanne has a way of getting a message across without condemning. That night, I got the message loud and clear and realized what God meant about love.
This morning, as I write this article, I still have a long way to go until I live what love really is.
