LAPLACE – Authorities in St. John the Baptist Parish are probing a shooting early Thursday in which a 20-year-old LaPlace man was shot in the neck.

Deputies were called to the intersection of Mt. Vernon Drive and Sherwood Drive in LaPlace at about 12:25 a.m., where they found the victim bent over on the walkway, said Capt. Dane Clement, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

The unidentified man told deputies he was visiting a friend in the 3000 block of Sherwood Drive when six or seven other men entered the home, and one started shooting.

According to investigators, the victim fled the house and knocked on several doors in the neighborhood seeking assistance. Clement said several of those residents alerted police to the shooting.

The victim was unable to provide accurate descriptions of the perpetrators.

Clement said the man was transported to University Hospital in New Orleans for treatment. His condition is not known.

Investigators have no motive or suspects in the shooting. Anyone with information regarding the incident should call St. John Parish detectives at 985-359-8769 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
