LAPLACE — Maggie Trepagnier, Luke Jackson, Jacob Jensen, Emily Schexnayder and Ben Schiff led LARAYO on its way to a 4-0 record with its latest victory, a 375-174 win at Sun Villa Monday night.
The five Barracuda swimmers each took home three first place award ribbons in their individual events to lead the LARAYO charge.
The meet was originally scheduled to be a home meet for LARAYO, but due to issues regarding the pool the meet was moved to Sun Villa. The decision to move the meet came Sunday.
“It was wonderful of them to take it and we’re very grateful,” said LARAYO coach Michelle Jensen. “We wanted to keep the meet the same night instead of moving it to another … you have kids on both teams with vacation plans and you need to swim in four meets to qualify for the Invitational. So we moved it there … we’re very appreciative of them for being able to get this together on short notice.”
LARAYO zoomed ahead 72-36 after the freestyle event and led 150-66 after the first two events. Sun Villa battled in the medley relay event, taking LARAYO to a near split, 42-28 – but the Barracudas dominated the freestyle relay, 56-14.
“I thought we swam consistently well through all of our events, through each stroke” said Jensen. “Our 15 to 18 year old boys and girls always do a great job, but they certainly stepped up again.”
Two-event winners for LARAYO included Ian Arnett, Grace Schexnayder, Emily Schexnayder and Cody Schafer.
Cameron Brady, Riley Weber, Kaile Levatino, Evan Brady, Luke Brouwer, Alex East, Maddie Murphy, Spencer Rodriguez, Ben East and Meredith Keating rounded out first place winners for LARAYO.
After defeating LaVacherie Thursday night (individual results of that meet will be posted next issue) and toppling Sun Villa, the Barracudas are two meet wins away from defending their River Parishes Swim League crown with yet another undefeated campaign.
