Well, it’s seems we are in the middle of the sports season, and I am sure that if you are a sports fan, and even if you’re not, you have heard all about one of the LSU players. If you turn on the radio, television or pick up the newspaper, they are talking or writing about the LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu, nicknamed “Honey Badger.”
So with all the conversations
about the “LSU-Honey Badger” you might be asking “What is a honey badger?” A honey badger is a small animal that lives in Africa and the Middle East. He looks like a weasel and is a meat eater. The badger does not have many predators because most other animals are scared of them and do not mess with him because he is so fearless. The badger does not care how big another animals is; he will fight them. The Guinness Book of World Records lists them as the most fearless animal in the world. The badger has thick, loose skin, and other animals can’t hold on to it. The honey badger has short, sturdy legs, with five toes on each foot. Honey badgers are intelligent animals that have strength and persistence. They are difficult to stop.
Now, how did LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu get the nickname
of “Honey Badger”? Well, this
young man has won several games for LSU because of the way he
plays the game. No. 7 Mathieu weighs about 175 pounds and will run down — or over — and tackle other players on the field that weigh more than 250 pounds. He is not scared, does not back off and will tangle with anyone to get the football, as we have witnessed this season.
He, like the badger, is small, but he will go after anyone no matter their size. And once he gets the football, it’s off to the races. He is fearless. When No. 7 gets the football, no one can stop him, and it’s game on. Being fearless and hard to catch has earned this young man the nickname “Honey Badger.” So now you see the nickname given to Tyrann Mathieu, LSU No. 7, fits him to a T. He can find the ball and go in any direction with lots of speed and make the plays to turn the game around.
The Jan. 9 BCS Championship Game will be the game of the year, and everyone is waiting to see just what the fearless, persistent, difficult to stop young man will do to bring the trophy home. Congratulations to Tyrann Mathieu for being a Heisman finalist.
Good Luck to LSU!
