God places us where we belong

I’ve heard it said that after every election, there’s a virus that goes around called PEB, or Post Election Blues. The symptoms include the losing side moping around, whining and feeling a mixture of self-pity, resentment and anger, and some even considering relocating.
I’ve taken some bumps this election, and God knows I was disappointed, but PEB – never! Life is too short, and I enjoy it too much to let something I can’t control control me.
A few days after the recent election, a supporter of Sheriff-elect Mike Tregre, knowing I voted for Sheriff Wayne Jones, asked me how I handled the results of the election. My answer was that I handled it pretty well, knowing that God is in control and I would face the future with renewed confidence, no matter who was in office.
Nothing in the world or the election booth surprises or frustrates the Lord. Psalm 75: 6 – 7, which is still in the Bible, reads: “For exaltation comes neither from the east nor from the west nor from the south, but God is the Judge. He puts down one, and exalts another.” If one really believes that (and I do), how can anyone not accept God’s plan for all concerned?
To those elected to public office: “Congratulations!”
To those defeated: “Thanks for participating in our democratic process.
To the majority of registered voters who refuse to let their voice be heard: “I extend my sympathy. How sad an existence not to participate in the affairs of your community.”
To my friend, Wayne Jones: “Thanks for your public service to our parish. I think you did a good job. Enjoy your retirement with your family, and you and Jo-Ann still have a full-time job babysitting and being a big part of your grandchildren’s lives.” As I shared the day after the election, the best chapter in your life is yet to be written. (I Corinthians 2:9)”
To our Sheriff-elect Mike Tregre: “Take advantage of Wayne’s unselfish and gracious gesture that will allow you to work in the office and prepare yourself for the challenge you will face. Hit the ground running, and as you promised – protection, not politics. My family and I wish you well. May God bless you with wisdom in handling your awesome responsibility.
