David Hargrave Jr. of the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church of LaPlace won first place in the District Competition Bible Spelling Bee on Saturday, June 2 at the Central Union Missionary Baptist Association Youth Explosion. Hargrave then won first place at the State Rally Competition on Saturday, June 9, in Opelousas, and then Tuesday, July 24, he won first place a the Southwest Region Youth Conference in Houston for the national competition. He is the son of David Hargrave Sr. and Paulette Hargrave of LaPlace.

Aquiana Roussell Brown is the youth director of the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and Ruth Wilson is the assistant youth director.
