The St. John Parish Central library will host a continuance of the popular, “Meet the Author Series,” featuring local author Glenn Singleton.  Singleton, an admitted sports fan, is a native of Ama. His book, “Crossing Over,” began as a gift to his older brother. His brother’s best friend, local athlete Don Raymond, was the first African-American athlete to compete at an integrated high school in St. Charles Parish. Raymond was on the verge of becoming a professional athlete when his life was tragically cut short. 

Inspired by such biographies as “Brian’s Song” and “Remember the Titans,” Singleton took on the daunting task of documenting Raymond’s life through accurate accounts from his family and friends. This journey began in 1980, and the novel, “Crossing Over” is the ultimate tribute to the legacy of this talented individual. The novel is the fascinating tale of tenacity and perseverance in the face of adversity. It’s the not-forgotten legendary journey of a life destined to change the face of history and set the platform for future and greater achievements of race relations in America.
