LAPLACE – St. Charles concluded its regular season with a convincing win, a 6-0 non-district contest against Covington Tuesday.

“We played pretty well,” said St. Charles softball coach Ty Monica. “Whenever you hold an opponent to no runs, obviously you love your chances. We made a couple of base running mistakes, but we can fix those. Those didn’t come from problems with effort. And otherwise we did the little things right.”

It was the second win of the season for SCC over Covington (7-16). The Lady Comets bested the Lions in the season opener for both teams, 12-1.

SCC (21-5) scored one run in the first, added two in the second and then three in the third. Pitcher Chelsea Loupe and the defense took care of the rest, as Loupe finished a complete game shutout, allowing six hits while striking out two.

Emily Triche helped lead SCC by going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs. Loupe and Jessica Mire each went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

The Comets finished with 12 hits.

Monica said last week that he was looking for his team to break out of a hitting slump that it struggled with over the second half of March. He was happy with what he saw Tuesday.

“This was our last opportunity to improve,” said Monica. “I could tell that they were swinging with confidence, which was really good to see.”
