LaPlace – St. Joan of Arc Catholic School awarded 49 diplomas to eighth-grade students during graduation exercises held at the parish’s church.

Co-valedictorians were Austin Roy, who will attend St. Charles Catholic High School in the fall, and Antonio Suarez, who will attend Brother Martin High School. Salutatorian was Melissa Hoang, who will attend St. Charles Catholic.

Third honor graduate was Zachary Roussel, who will attend St. Charles Catholic. Fourth honor graduate was Darrielle Lumar, who will attend Hahnville High School, and fifth honor graduate was Madeleine Murphy, who will attend St. Charles Catholic.

The top five students attending Catholic high schools each received a Msgr. Dennis Bergeron Scholarship worth $1,000. The scholarship program honors the memory of the longtime St. Joan of Arc pastor fondly remembered as “Father Pete,” who led the church for 27 years from 1963 until his death in 1989.   

The Msgr. Edward Boudreaux Award, presented to the graduate with outstanding Christian character, went to Zachary Weber.
