LUTCHER — St. James Parish Hospital’s Progressive Care Unit is now open. The new unit was added during the hospital’s recent expansion, which also included the construction of David Reynaud Medical Plaza.
The Progressive Care Unit is equipped with advanced technology that allows nurses to provide a higher level of care for sicker patients. This cutting-edge equipment allows nurses to constantly monitor patients and track their vitals even from the nurses’ station. In addition, all rooms have breakaway glass doors that facilitate observation.
The Progressive Care Unit is located adjacent to the hospital’s Acute Care Department and includes five spacious, private rooms. The hospital’s impressive growth and vision to be the community’s first choice for healthcare needs led to the decision to add the unit. Now, many patients who require increased supervision can be cared for close to home rather than being transferred to another facility.
“I’m extremely excited that we can now offer a higher level of care to meet the needs of our more seriously ill patients,” said Rhonda Zeringue, director of nursing. “We are dedicated to giving our patients the opportunity to heal at home.”
The hospital’s team also expanded with the opening of the new unit. Nurses were hired for their experience caring for more acute patients and for their expertise in utilizing the unit’s cutting-edge technology.
